The Tool Box That Became a Watch Tool Box. The Watch Tool Box takes the same idea in a different direction — from displaying watches to organising everything that surrounds them. Designed for the enthusiast who collects, changes and works on watches and straps, the T-190 transforms a compact Toyo Steel toolbox into a dedicated storage system for watch straps, stock bracelets, pins, spring bars and tools.
Since 1969, Toyo Steel has been making its distinctive steel toolboxes in Higashi-Osaka, Japan. Built from a single sheet of steel using deep-drawing technology, the boxes are strong, lightweight and deliberately uncomplicated. Originally designed for the workshop, the humble toolbox has since found a life beyond tools, appreciated for its versatility and honest industrial design.
For the Watch Tool Box, the exterior remains unmistakably Toyo Steel. The transformation happens inside.
Working within the compact T-190, RSM reimagined the interior as a two-tier EVA storage system, with both trays stacked neatly over one another and removable by hand. EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam — lightweight, resilient and cushioning, with a soft surface that helps prevent scratches while providing enough structure to protect and organise its contents — is particularly well suited to watch accessories and tools.
The lower tier is a 25mm-deep EVA tray, providing generous space for watch straps, stock bracelets and larger accessories. Above it sits a 9mm-deep EVA tray, designed for smaller essentials such as pins, spring bars and watchmaking tools. A small integrated nib allows each tray to be pinched and pulled out by hand, giving quick access to either level without having to empty the box.
The stacked arrangement makes clever use of the T-190's compact footprint while keeping everything organised. Larger items occupy the deeper lower tray, while smaller components and tools or exclusive items are kept immediately accessible in the upper tier. When needed, either tray can simply be lifted out, turning the toolbox into a flexible work kit for your next strap change or watch project.
The result is less a storage box and more a compact watch enthusiast's work kit. Straps, bracelets, spring bars, pins and tools each have their place, neatly organised and protected within a hardy Japanese steel box.
Open the lid and everything is immediately within reach. Remove a tray, find what you need, make the adjustment and put it all back. Simple, practical and satisfying — exactly what a toolbox should be.
