RSM & Toyo Steel Turn Iconic Toolboxes Into Watch Storage

There is something oddly satisfying about repurposing an object designed for one use and finding that it serves a completely different purpose exceptionally well. This is precisely what occurred when Toyo Steel's iconic toolboxes entered the realm of watch collecting.
The project started when Toyo Steel approached RSM to explore the possibility of developing a product that could utilize its existing toolboxes. I don't think I need to explain if the project became a reality; that's why you're here.
James Crichton (@gearetal), an avid watch and everyday carry (EDC) items, had previously expressed interest in creating a case specifically designed for storing watch straps. When Toyo Steel became involved, the idea rapidly gained traction. RSM and the Form & Function (F&F) podcast collaborated on the geometry and sizing of the inserts and cushions, transforming the utilitarian toolbox into a more specialized product.
The result? The Watch Tool Box T320: an age-old Toyo Steel toolbox redesigned to accommodate six watches.
The exterior aesthetically maintains a traditional metal toolbox, while the interior has been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of a watch collector. The cushions and inserts are crafted from EVA foam, a lightweight and flexible closed-cell material renowned for its shock absorption and moisture resistance.
This combination makes the T320 significantly more useful than its modest origins imply. Based on looks alone, one might suggest that if someone were to forcibly enter into your home, for whatever reason, your watches might actually be safer in the T320 than in your safe. It looks like a generic, classic toolbox; nothing to see or take here.
Every collector eventually accumulates a pile of stock bracelets, spare straps, spring bars, and various small tools that seem to have nowhere to go. The Watch Tool Box T190 addresses this issue with two layers of compartment inserts. The shallow upper layer can be removed to reveal a deeper compartment underneath, offering flexible storage for everything from bracelets and straps to smaller watchmaking tools.
There is also a practical benefit for collectors with growing collections: multiple T190 boxes can be stacked, enabling storage to increase without compromising the compact footprint that makes the toolbox so useful.
